The home's interior is a happy mix of contemporary and more traditional elements and these tastes were to be incorporated into the new space.
Design Problems

Design Solutions

The extension of the house matched the exterior siding and trim detail, two existing windows were reused and a third made to match, with these minimum windows with obscure glass facing the walkway.

The new roofline matched the existing and nestled under the trees. As little landscaping as possible was changed, leaving large rocks in place.

The windows facing the west side were heavily etched on the bottom for privacy and clear on the top so the trees and sky were visible from the bath.

The vaulted ceilings repeat the open feeling of the home and add architectural excitement to the room with the varied partition heights.

Additional natural light and ventilation was provided by two skylights with electric openers, which also helped the cross ventilation in the bedroom.

His and her closets were created with a customized closet system contracted separately by the clients.

Additional storage for clothing in drawers and a base for a TV were incorporated in the bathroom space, with matching cabinetry.

A narrow cabinet covered the redirected laundry chute.

The toilet was located in a separate space with a pocket door opening. A bidet seat was added to the project, which turned into a big hit, especially with their grandchildren!

The soaking tub with a marble tile deck and skirt was placed in front of the window so the ambience of the custom etching could be enjoyed.

A generous shower has two heads, a bench, and his favorite: a fog free shaving mirror. The shower is tucked behind a curved wall with marble tile walls and slip resistant porcelain tile flooring.

The wet area of the bath between the tub and the shower is heated slip resistant ceramic tile.

To provide the requested privacy, the vanities are backed to one another with triple Robern medicine cabinets that have integral halogen lighting between.

The 36" high marble slab countertops over stained and glazed cabinets create the elegance requested. All metal surfaces and fixtures are matte finishes, including gold, nickel and brass.

Her mirror is accented with a custom made mirror which echoes the matte mixed metal choices in the room. A lighted magnifying mirror sits on the countertop, which is protected with clear glass.

The monochromatic color scheme from the master bedroom is carried into the new bath. Variations in textures and color values provide interest in an atmosphere of quiet elegance.
After months of planning, the clients are truly delighted to enjoy the fulfillment of their special requests in a functional, beautiful, and safe space.
