GENTLEMAN’S RETREAT

When there was no more room for another electronic gadget, a remodel was inevitable. The original office just off the entry was overrun with exposed equipment, cords, books and paperwork in need of a designated home. The homeowners deemed that storage was of primary importance. Being a photography hobbyist and computer technology enthusiast, the solution for him was to customize cabinetry to conceal an array of equipment and provide access to numerous files. She wanted shelving to display her collection of eagles. She also had specific ideas about the mood the office should evoke. While function was the driving force behind the remodel, the goal was to recreate the aesthetic of an English pub complete with a copper ceiling and leather walls.

Solution

  • Create concealed storage for:

  • Scanner

  • Specialty printer

  • Daily-use printer

  • Photo printer

  • Shredder

  • CPU

  • Keyboard and mouse § Battery back-up

  • Cable modem

  • Wireless adapter

  • Sub-woofer

  • 4 small speakers

  • Safe

  • Copious files

  • Display area for eagle collection

Roll-outs behind flip-down drawer fronts provide easy access to the keyboard, printers, and scanner. Grommets and a wire management system organize and conceal the considerable number of wires corresponding to the assorted equipment. Books, paperwork and the shredder are hidden behind doors yet remain easily accessible. Extra reinforcement in the toe kick space supports the weighty safe secreted behind a locking door. Six file cabinets, including two tucked conveniently under the inviting window seat, provide ample storage. Select file drawers also have locks to ensure privacy. Open shelves allow plenty of space to display the various eagle collectibles.

Knotty cherry cabinets in a low sheen sienna stain appear rich next to the warm faux finished copper ceiling. New natural oak hardwood flooring helps to lighten the space in contrast to the dark cabinets. The green aged leather faux finished walls add to the old world charm and complement the mesmerizing rainforest green granite countertop. For the primary work area, a knotty cherry wood countertop supplements the granite. The look of Tiffany lighting completes the desired English Pub aesthetic.
