| Conceptual Design Phase
When you first visit our showroom, one of our designers will spend some time with you discussing what you hope to achieve with your project and going over how the process will unfold. If you and the designer feel that there is the basis for a good working relationship, the designer will arrange to visit your home to get a better feel for the spaces, your design tastes and rough estimates of the total cost of such a project. To this point, there is no financial obligation on your part. It is still considered part of your selection process.
Once you have chosen a design firm, you will probably be asked to enter into some form of contractual arrangement for completion of the design phase of the project. The fees for such work vary from a few hundred dollars to as much as 10% of the project's value. You should make sure that this part of the relationship with your chosen designer is documented so that there is a clear understanding as to what design work is to be performed and what the ultimate cost will be.
At the Showplace, we ask for a retainer which ranges between $1,000 and $4,000 depending on the scope of the work which is envisioned. At the time we receive the retainer, we enter into a signed
Retainer Agreement outlining the responsibilities of both parties. At this point we are ready to begin actual plans and specifications of your project.
Initially, our staff will prepare "as built" drawings of the existing spaces to be impacted by your remodeling project and the designer will work up alternative designs to review with you. At this point, some preliminary decisions will be made concerning cabinet styling, appliance types and general specifications.
Once these roughs have been honed to a single design, actual floor plans and elevations will be prepared and products which are to be included will be specified.
